Career Coaching for Engineers & Technical Leaders
Eich Dyn provides private career coaching and direct career consultancy for experienced engineers, technical specialists and technical leaders in the UK, online. Each engagement starts with a free, confidential 45-minute Career Diagnosis with Dai Jones.
Coaching questions help you own the decision; direct recommendations improve how you position, evidence and execute it.

Why I wrote this
I meet experienced engineers and technical leaders whose work has had real value, yet their next opportunity does not reflect it. They ask for a career coach because they want someone to listen, challenge their thinking and help them move forward. That is a reasonable place to start.
In my experience, a useful conversation also needs to examine the evidence. What decisions did you own? What changed because of your work? Who needs to recognise that value, and in what language? Sometimes the answer is a better career decision. Sometimes it is a stronger account of work you have already done.
This page sets out the support plainly so you can decide whether it fits before booking a conversation.
Who is career coaching for engineers for?
It is for engineers and technical leaders whose strong work is not creating the next opportunity. Technical careers build depth; the next decision often depends on whether others can see the judgement, impact and leadership behind that depth.
Changing direction
You are considering another role, employer or sector and need to know what genuinely transfers.
Progressing in role
You are carrying more responsibility than your title or reward reflects and need a credible case for advancement.
Getting overlooked
Your CV, profile or applications list substantial work, yet the market is not responding as it should.
Converting interviews
You reach decision-makers but need sharper examples of impact, trade-offs and leadership judgement.
It is also relevant to scientists, researchers and technical specialists moving into commercial or leadership roles. If you need a quick cosmetic CV rewrite alone, this is unlikely to be the right engagement. If you are weighing a broader change in mid-career, the guide on choosing a career coach for a mid-career change is a useful companion.
How does it start? With a free Career Diagnosis.
A free, confidential 45-minute consultation with Dai establishes what is happening before deciding what support, if any, would help.
- 1
Set the decision
Clarify the move, promotion or career question in front of you, alongside constraints and timing.
- 2
Find the blockage
Review your target and evidence to see whether the issue lies in direction, positioning, market access, interviews or offer decisions.
- 3
Choose the next action
Identify what to address first and whether an external MOVE, an internal PROPEL or a more focused action makes sense.
A useful outcome even if you do not enrol.
The diagnosis carries no obligation. You should understand the issue more clearly and know what deserves attention first.
Book Your Career Diagnosis →How do coaching questions and direct recommendations work together?
Some decisions need space to think; others need an experienced assessment. Coaching questions help you test assumptions, weigh trade-offs and choose a direction you can own. Dai gives direct recommendations when your target is too broad, your evidence is weak or your interview story hides the value of your work.
When coaching helps
Own the decision
Explore what you want, what you will trade, what is holding you back and which option fits your priorities.
When direct advice helps
Improve the execution
Get a direct view of your market positioning, career evidence, CV and LinkedIn narrative, opportunity plan, interviews and offer decisions.
“You remain responsible for the decision. You gain a stronger way to make it, and a clearer plan to act on it.”
Career OS™ connects the diagnosis to the work that follows. Tools and AI can speed up research and preparation; human judgement governs what the evidence means and what to do next. For the wider consultancy service, including how technical work is translated into market value, see career consultant for engineers.

Questions before you book
Is this coaching or consultancy?
Both have a place. Coaching helps you examine choices and take ownership of the decision. Consultancy provides a direct assessment and recommendations on positioning, evidence and execution. The balance follows the problem identified in your Career Diagnosis.
Do I have to leave engineering to progress?
No. Career OS™ MOVE supports a new employer, sector or role. Career OS™ PROPEL supports greater scope, influence, promotion and reward from your current environment. The diagnosis tests which route is credible for you.
Will you rewrite my CV in the first session?
The first step is to establish the target and the evidence it requires. A CV is more effective when it expresses a clear market position, so work on documents follows that decision and depends on the programme chosen.
Is the Career Diagnosis a sales commitment?
No. It is a free, confidential 45-minute consultation with no obligation to enrol.
